Baker Joins Firm

Hoogendoorn & Talbot welcomes Bruce Baker as its newest partner, concentrating his practice on banking and finance transactions, general corporate, regulatory compliance, and international cross border transactions. He received his BA and MA in international relations from Johns Hopkins University and his law degree from the University of Chicago. Mr. Baker has worked for large international law firms and a large Chicago bank. "We already have good relations with a number of banks in Chicago and Bruce's presence will certainly enhance those relationships," notes named partner Case Hoogendoorn. "Bruce brings substantial depth to our existing banking and finance practice and our lending clients will benefit greatly from his deep-seated expertise," says corporate partner G.A. Finch.

G.A. Finch Appointed to Concept Schools Advisory Committee

Partner G.A. Finch was recently asked to join the Concept Schools Advisory Committee. Members of the Advisory Committee were requested to share their experience, expertise, wisdom and vision to help Concept Schools to be the best and highest performing charter management organization in the country. Concept Schools has grown to manage 27 charter schools in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. The Concept-managed schools implement the same model of college prep focusing on math, science, and technology with high standards and expectations for all of its students. All of its schools reside in an urban setting, and they have a 100% college acceptance rate. Additionally, the demographics of its schools include students who come from economically disadvantaged families that vary from 60% to 99%, while 80% of these schools' graduates are first generations in their families to attend college. "I have gotten to know the founders and executives of Concept Schools and have marveled at the consistent success of their schools for children from diverse backgrounds," noted Mr. Finch.

Lillig Hosts Polyphony H.S. Board of Directors Meeting

On November 15, 2011, Hoogendoorn & Talbot LLP hosted the quarterly Board meeting of Polyphony H.S., the international literary magazine for high school writers founded by Chicago author Billy Lombardo, the winner of the 2011 Chicago Tribune Nelson Algren Short Story Award.
Associate attorney John Lillig is a member of the Polyphony H.S. Board of Directors. Polyphony H.S. publishes a print and online literary magazine and has received submissions from high school students in 48 states and 16 foreign countries. Over 1,600 young writers submitted their work to Polyphony H.S. during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Lillig Gives Lecture at DePaul Law School

Associate attorney John Lillig spoke at the American Society of Law, Medicine, & Ethics' 5th Annual Student Health Law Conference at DePaul University College of Law on Friday, October 21, 2011. Lillig talked about his work with Partner James Rankin representing medical certification boards as clients. His remarks were part of a panel discussion on representing tax-exempt organizations in the health care field.

Finch Co-Chairs Bar Foundation Fall Benefit

Finch Elected Chair of Decatur Classical School

Decatur Classical School, a Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment school, has been ranked the number one elementary school by the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Magazine. Mr. Finch has had a life-long interest in education, having served on several educational boards of trustees/directors, including Hampshire College, Robert Morris College, St. Joseph Seminary at Loyola University of Chicago, the Commonwealth School of Boston, and the University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School (elected student member).

Cole Joins Board of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago

Cole Served as Judge for Project Citizen 2011

On May 27, 2011, Partner Deborah B. Cole served as a judge for participants in the Project Citizen 2011 Portfolio Presentations, held at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. Project Citizen, one of the programs of the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Chicago ("CRF"), provides students in 5th thru 8th grades with the opportunity to examine public policy and work cooperatively on a student-driven project where they take steps to address a problem they identify in their community. The CRF seeks to instill in our nation's youth a deeper understanding of citizenship through values expressed in our Constitution and our Bill of Rights, and to educate young people to become active and responsible participants in our society. Ms. Cole was impressed with the passion the students exhibited for the projects they worked on to enhance their communities.

H&T Attorneys Give CBA Seminar

Finch Joins Chicago Bar Board of Managers; Receives Cook County Bar Award

The Cook County Bar Association will give its Ida B. Platt Award to Mr. Finch on June 24th at its 97th Annual Awards and Installation Banquet.
Mr. Finch currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Bar Foundation and the Board of Directors of CBA Television Productions, Inc.
